Finding Your Rise
Tie side - adjustable self ties let you wear the pant high on the hip or pull it down to mid rise. The most flexible option, and the one that adapts as you do.
Regular - a classic leg height that lengthens the leg. Our Newport pant has a 3.5cm side width and can be worn high or pulled lower to suit.
Mid rise - sits between the two, often with a wider front panel. Ruched styles add fuller coverage through the front length with a higher cut leg.
High waisted - a wide soft waistband and a low leg. Every high waisted pant includes hidden control to shape and smooth.
Bikini shorts - a boy short leg with full coverage, fully lined with a gusset panel.
Understanding Coverage
Coverage is noted on the product page. Most of our range sits at medium coverage. Tie side pants are generally skimpy through the seat. Ruched and mid rise styles give fuller coverage through the front. Bikini shorts give full coverage.
Rise and coverage are separate decisions. A high waisted pant can have medium seat coverage; a low tie side can be worn higher on the hip.
Built the Same Way, Every Pair
Every Monte & Lou bikini bottom is fully lined. Fabrics are recycled nylon, chosen because they feel like silk against the skin and dry faster than conventional swim fabric. Seams are enclosed wherever possible, keeping overlocked edges out of sight.
High waisted styles include hidden control to shape and smooth through the front. Details are finished properly — rouleau belts, tassel cord ends, bead trims and bespoke hardware, depending on the style.
Building a Set
Bottoms and tops are sold separately, because most women don't take the same size in both. Every print runs across the full range of coordinating tops and bottoms, so you can take one size on top and another below in the same print.
Each swim collection is produced alongside resortwear in the same prints and tones.
Bikini Bottom FAQs
What's the difference between high waisted, mid rise, regular and tie side bikini bottoms?
Rise describes where the waistband sits on your body. High waisted sits at or above the natural waist, usually with a wide soft waistband and a lower leg line. Mid rise sits below the waist and above the hip. Regular sits on the hip with a leg line cut to lengthen the leg. Tie side is the most adjustable — self ties let you wear the same pant high on the hip or pulled down to mid rise.
Rise is separate from coverage. A high waisted pant doesn't automatically cover more through the seat, and a low tie side doesn't automatically cover less. Both are listed on every Monte & Lou product page.
Which bikini bottom style gives the most coverage?
Bikini shorts, which have a boy short leg and full coverage through the seat. Below that, ruched mid rise styles give fuller coverage through the front length, most of the range sits at medium coverage, and tie side pants are generally skimpy through the seat.
Because coverage and rise are described separately on every product page, you can pick a high waistband with medium seat coverage, or a low rise with more coverage, rather than having to accept both together.
Do Monte & Lou bikini bottoms have tummy control?
Our high waisted styles include hidden control to shape and smooth through the front — it's built into the construction rather than added as a separate panel, so nothing shows from the outside. Ruched mid rise styles work differently: a wide gathered front panel adds a second layer of fabric through the midsection.
Every pair, in every style, is fully lined.
Are Monte & Lou bikini bottoms fully lined?
Yes, every pair. Bikini shorts are fully lined with a gusset panel. Lining matters more in swimwear than most people expect: it determines opacity when wet, how the fabric holds its shape, and how the pant sits against the skin.
How do I match a bikini bottom to a top?
Every print is produced across the full range of coordinating tops and bottoms, so any top in a print pairs with any bottom in the same print. They're sold separately because most women don't take the same size in both take the size that fits each, not one size for the set.
If you're building a set from scratch, choose the top first. Support is the harder requirement to satisfy; coverage below is a preference you can set afterwards.
What sizes do Monte & Lou bikini bottoms come in?
